Benjamin Franklin- He was one of the five men in the committee that drafted The Declaration of Independence. Also in 1776, he became the American ambassador of France, in hopes of gaining alliance with the French.
John Adams- Was also one of the five to draft the Declaration of Independence. He also was the first to think to be allies/ have diplomatic relationships with Britain's enemies I.E. Spain and France.
Thomas Jefferson- When he was 33 years old, Thomas was asked to write The Declaration of Independence with the likes of Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. He also served as John Adams vice president and eventually our third president.
I think that Independence is a double edged sword. On the one hand, we are free from all the laws and taxes Britain might shove down onto us, and we are free to create our own standards. But on the other hand, while we were with Britain, we had a certain feeling of protection from the rest of the world, and now that we've broken off from them, we have a target on our back from the largest empire in the world.

Most colonists wanted to break off from Britain, was because of treatment. Britain mainly used the Colonies for personal gain, with no regard for the colonists. They were not even given basic right/privileges. Ben Franklin once said that he wouldn't mind being called an englishman, if it meant getting the same privileges as one.
The only reason I can see for some colonists to keep staying with England, and all the benefits that come with it. Such as taxes possibly not being bumped up, etc.
If it were up to me, I would break off from England. I/We would be able to run our country the way WE want to. We would be able to increase of decrease taxes as we please, able to ally ourselves, etc. All of that with the threat of England punishing us.

Boston Tea Party...
I've heard news from up north that Boston has revolted against England in probably the most effective way yet. As the tea imports arrived from The East India Tea Company, some of the citizens arrived and began to throw the tea off the ship! I guess they were fed up with the pointless taxes on the tea, that they 'so graciously' reduced the price of.
I do believe they were wrong. Like I said before, they LOWERED the price of the tea. Why did they do that if they were just going to raise the tax?! It doesn't make any sense.
Yes, but only the idea. If I had been arrested (or worse), then who would take care of my family? So yes and no, I guess.
I do not! I mean, I see where they're coming from, but come on. Cutting off all ships to Boston with their goods on them? Come on guys, grow up a little.
Thats it for this one.

Colonial Atmosphere
The date is September twenty second, 1602.
My family and I have arrived at Jamestown. It's great to finally be in a land where we can start a new life, free from any burdens in our past. We live around the center of town, in a partially built cottage. Right now, I'm taking a little break from working on the room to write down my progress, and our story so far. On one end of our house, we have a small garden. It is slowly growing, and provides just enough to keep us fed. We're also growing tobacco, in hopes that we can sell it, to improve our current living conditions.
Ive heard there is another colony a couple of miles away. I....We are not sure if they are friend or foe. Hopefully, once we get everything situated here, we can travel to them.
Almost everyone here is friendly. There are those who are still bitter about our situation, disappointed that our slice of America is nothing more than a large grouping of trees. I should return to working, so I'll end this entry here.
Sincerely,
G Hanson
